Q1. Can I open an account while I'm in Japan?
Yes, it is possible. By using our center’s mail-in application process, you can complete the application procedure simply by signing the PDF application form and uploading a photo for identity verification. There is no requirement to travel to our office in person (though you may also choose the in-person application option).
Q2. How long does it take to open an account?
Please allow 2 to 6 weeks from the time all required documents are submitted. This timeframe may vary depending on the status of JDB Bank’s review.
Q3. How much does it cost to open an account?
For our mail-in application process, a total of USD 500 (account opening fee) + USD 300 (initial deposit) = USD 800 is required. Registration with our center is free of charge.
Q4. What documents are required?
The three main items required are your passport (the page with your photo), a photo of yourself holding your passport, and proof of address. For details, Guide to Required Documents Please take a look.
Q5. Is the interest rate on USD-denominated time deposits really 6%?
As of May 2026, the published interest rate for 12-month USD time deposits for individual customers, as listed on the official JDB Bank website (jdbbank.com.la), is 6.0%. Please check with JDB Bank at the time of signing the contract regarding the minimum deposit amount and the terms for early withdrawal. Interest rates are subject to change depending on economic conditions.
Q6. What about Japanese taxes?
If you have overseas financial assets exceeding 50 million yen, you must file a Report on Overseas Assets. Interest and dividends from overseas assets must be reported as income for that year on your tax return. Tax information is automatically exchanged under the CRS. Q7. Can U.S. citizens and green card holders open an account?

Q8. How do I deposit funds into an existing account?
Please use the SWIFT code (BIC: JDBKLALAXXX) and account number provided by JDB Bank to make a cross-border remittance from a Japanese megabank or online bank. Remittance fees and foreign exchange fees are subject to each bank’s policies.
Q9. Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
While you can generally close a checking account at any time, you may be required to submit documents in person. Please review the terms and conditions of your time deposit account, as early withdrawal before maturity may result in a significant reduction in interest (or no interest at all).

No. Our center does not offer JDB bank accounts within Japan. Information and Document Support We do not act as an agent or intermediary for banking services (as defined by the Banking Act). Account openings are handled directly by JDB Bank via our center’s application form.
